I like to think of this as a healthier version of a cinnamon roll. Smaller, with much less sugar, less fat and less calories, yet they taste just like the ones I used to eat growing up.

Ingredients
Ingredient Notes
- Granulated Sweetener: I use Lakanto Monkfruit โBrownโ and it measures just like sugar. I prefer using a brown sweetener rather than a white on for this recipe as it adds a slightly difference flavour. Alternatively you could use stevia or another other sweetener that measures like sugar.
- Powdered Sweetener: I use Lakanto powdered sweetener which is similar to icing sugar in Australia. I buy mine from Woolworths in the baking aisle.
- Cream Cheese for Top: low fat cream cheese works fine here if you are looking to make these as lean as possible
How To Make
- Soften Frozen Pastry: Lay out frozen puff pastry on bench (keep plastic on). Cover and let it defrost for 5 minutes until it loses its stiffness
- Make Cinnamon Butter: Add softened butter, granulated sweetener and ground cinnamon to a bowl and mix together well so the it resembles a paste.
- Spread Cinnamon Butter: Spread cinnamon mixture over puff pastry, all the way to the edges.
- Fold and Slice: Working quickly, start at one side, folding over and forward, rolling into a log. Slice in half with a sharp knife, then slice each half piece into four, so that there are 8 mini rolls in total.
- Arrange in Air Fryer and Cook: Lay each piece flat side down into air fryer and spray lightly with oil if using. Cook for 12 minutes at 180 degrees C/ 350 degrees F.
- Open air fryer and turn cinnamon rolls over and cook for a further 3 minutes.
- Remove cinnamon rolls from air fryer onto a rack to cool and make the glaze.
- Glaze: Add softened cream cheese, powdered sweetener and lemon juice and mix through. Add water a tiny bit at a time, until you get a sauce like consistency, suitable for drizzling.
- Use a spoon to drizzle on top of each cinnamon roll.
Expert Tips:
- Puff Pastry: Donโt let the puff pastry sit on the bench for to long before getting started. If should still be cold when you start working with it so it โpuffsโ up. The warmer it becomes the harder it will be to work with and cut.
- Glazing: I like to glaze the cinnamon rolls whilst the are sill fairly warm, but not so warm that it just slides right off.
- Glazing Alternative: in lieu of the cream cheese, you can substitute it with milk to achieve a lighter glaze.
- Storage: Store cinnamon rolls in an air tight container in fridge for 2 days
- Preheating Air Fryer: I donโt tend to worry about preheating my air fryer, however if you prefer to, decrease the cooking time by a few minutes.
These puff pastry cinnamon rolls are a healthier take on a much loved favourite. On puff pastry sheet makes 8 small rolls that are perfect as an after dinner treat to keep cravings at bay.
