Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 500 grams (1 pound) Ground Turkey/Turkey Mince
  • ½ teaspoon Sea Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 medium Brown onion finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano or mixed dried herbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon sweet paprika

Instructions

  • Add all the ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Use hands or a spoon to thoroughly mix everything together
  • Roll mixture into 16 evenly sixed meatballs
  • Preheat Air fryer to 180 degrees C/350 degrees F for 3 minutes
  • Add meatballs to the basket, ensuring not to overcrowd. (If your air fryer is not big enough to take all the meatballs without overcrowding, its best to cook them in two batches)
  • Cook at 180 degrees C/350 degrees for 20 minutes

Notes

  1. Meat:  using ground or minced turkey makes these meatballs lower in fat than chicken or beef.  Even though turkey is a lean meat, these meatballs are tender and juicy thanks to the unique way the air fryer cooks them so they stay moist on the inside and develop a golden brown outside with a  slight crispiness.
  2. Onion:  this provides flavour and texture and its best to dice the onion as finely as you can so it blends into the meatballs.
  3. Seasonings:  you can make the seasonings as complex or as simple as you like.  Salt, pepper and garlic provide the savoury base of the flavourings, oregano provides a hit of freshness, and the two different paprikas provide a sweet and smokey note
Seasoning Combinations
  • Spicy:  half a teaspoon of garlic powder, onion powder, chilli powder, 1 teaspoon dried chilli flakes
  • Smokey:  half a teaspoon of garlic powder, onion powder, dried basil, dried rosemary,  1 teaspoon smoked paprika and mustard powder.
  • Fresh:  half a teaspoon of garlic powder, onion powder,  1 teaspoon celery salt (or regular), 1 tablespoon diced mint leaves and 1 tablespoon diced coriander/cilantro leaves
Additional Flavourings
  • A boost of Tang:  1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, freshly grated ginger, or ginger paste from a jar
  • A boost of Heat:  1 teaspoon of chilli paste, or sambel olek
  • Extra Salty:  1 tablespoon of finely grated pasmesan, or crumbled feta
